چکیده

We investigate the effectiveness of using smearing as a means to generate a preconditioning transformation for gauge fields prior to fixing to Maximal Centre Gauge. This still leaves the gaugefixed field in the original gauge orbit. As expected, we find that this preconditioning leads to higher maxima of the gauge-fixing condition, resulting in lower numbers of P-vortices. We also find that removing vortices appears to give a loss of confinement for all cases but that the string tension as measured from vortex-only configurations drops from about 65% to as low as 26% when using the preconditioning method.

SU(3) string tension and the presence of vortices

Lattice simulations are presented showing the expectation of the fluctuation of the Wilson loop solely by elements of the center to fully reproduce the SU(3) heavy quark potential. The results are stable under smoothing, and point to thick vortices as being responsible for the full SU(3) tension. An analytic result on the necessary presence of thick vortices for confinement at weak coupling is ...

Confinement and Fat-center-vortices Model

In this paper I review shortly potentials obtained for SU(2), SU(3) and SU(4) static sources from fat-center-vortices model. Results confirm the confinement of quarks in all three gauge groups. Proportionality of string tensions with flux tube counting is better than Casimir scaling especially for SU(4).

پتانسیلهای محض SU(3) در مدل ورتکسهای مرکزی پهن

The potentials between static sources in various representations in SU(3) are calculated on the basis of the fat-centre-vortices model of Faber, Greensite and Olejník. At intermediate distances, potentials are in qualitative agreement with “Casimir scaling,” which says that the string tension is proportional to the quadratic operator of the representation. At large distances, screening occurs...

We study monopoles and vortices in SU (2) lattice gauge theory on a 24 4 lattice at β = 2.50. We find a value of fundamental string tension from monopoles in the maximum Abelian gauge consistent with the full SU (2) value. Using direct and indirect center gauges, we find fundamental string tension values from P-vortices which are larger than the full SU (2) result. After a single cooling sweep,...

Nonabelian Superconductors: Vortices and Confinement in N = 2 Sqcd

We study nonabelian vortices (flux tubes) in SU(N) gauge theories, which are responsible for the confinement of (nonabelian) magnetic monopoles. In particular a detailed analysis is given of N = 2 SQCD with gauge group SU(3) deformed by a small adjoint chiral multiplet mass. Tuning the bare quark masses (which we take to be large) to a common value m, we consider a particular vacuum of this the...
